sensory: wild blanc

We suspect this is a wild calville blanc d’hiver apple. The tree it came from grows by itself on the side of the road near the park where we hike. I held this apple, still warm from its morning in the sun, in my hands and inhaled its fragrance deeply. The perfume of its skin is a fantastical blend of night jasmine, cotton candy, vanilla, sweet cream, cut flower stems, and the beach. What a delight. Biting into it, though, is quite a surprise. The pulp is as lively as a green-apple flavored Jolly Rancher candy.
